Classy Predictions - Minnesota at Indiana

Posted by the Section 117 Classy Gentlemen

Let's face it. We all won last week.
We're back for our second week of Classy Predictions. Last week in our first effort, we had four brave souls who picked the Gophers to stun Nebraska, and they were rewarded for their bravery with an incredible victory by our favorite squad. Three of us flat out got it wrong, one fell asleep mid-pick and two are starting up this week for the first time.

Rap's prediction of Minnesota 31, Nebraska 24 was the closest to being 100 percent accurate so he is awarded with the first ever Classy Prediction title. Tip of the cap and a hearty handshake to you, Mr. Rap. Big Party, Flony and Brooks Magsh were also correct meaning a 1-year-old was more accurate than the rest of us. Higgy had the score exactly right, but got the winner wrong. Here are a look at the Classy Prediction standings thus far.

Classy Prediction Standings
Rap 1-0
Big Party 1-0
Flony 1-0
Brooks Magsh 1-0
Melissa Magsh 0-0
Butler 0-0
Kellen 0-0
Bruiser 0-1
Magsh 0-1
Higgy 0-1

This week, our team heads to Indiana to take a high-scoring Hoosier team. Check out our picks below, and feel free to join in our prognosticating fun and add your pick in the comments section. Go Gophers!

CLASSY PREDICTIONS - MINNESOTA AT INDIANA
NOV. 2, 2013 - 2:30 P.M. - BLOOMINGTON, IND.

RAP
1-0, 1 OVERALL WIN
MINNESOTA 30, INDIANA 24
Time of possession will win this game. The Gopher running game will trump the Hoosier passing attack in that regard. The Gopher Defense will stop a late 4th down conversion attempt by the Hoosiers, setting up an opportunity for Phillip "The Closer" Nelson to take yards off his box score in the Victory Formation. Proof that optimism is genetic: Dale Rapovich (Rap's dad) predicts a 34-24 Gopher win. Ski-U-Mah!

BIG PARTY
1-0
MINNESOTA 33, INDIANA 31
Both offenses move the ball with relative ease but struggle to punch it in the end zone in the first half.  The game will break open in the 3rd when Limegrover adds a pass option to a Donovan Jones jet sweep and he connects with Maxx Williams for a big TD.  Indiana will score late to keep it close, but the efficient Gopher running game will be able to grind out the clock to seal the win. There will be a slight pang of regret in the Classy Gentlemen for not considering this game as an option for the road trip, but then we’ll all realize we still haven’t fully recovered from last week yet. Then we’ll all watch Lethal Weapon 4 together and really be able to relate to Danny Glover’s internal conflict about being “too damn old for this sh*t”.

FLONY
1-0
MINNESOTA 31, INDIANA 26
Red zone defense. The Hoosiers can sling it, but Minnesota plays bend but don't break defense limiting the Hoosiers to 3 points on 4 of their scoring drives. The Gopher offense will control the clock and benefit from a short field (and maybe a few timely turnovers), while making sure Indiana has to string together multiple first downs in order to get points.

BROOKS MAGSH
1-0
MINNESOTA 4, INDIANA 1
Once again I’m limited to the random numbers I can hold up with one hand. Don’t ask me how Indiana’s only going to get an extra point and no touchdown, because I simply do not know. Goldy rules!

MELISSA MAGSH
0-0
MINNESOTA 48, INDIANA 10
I was kicked by fetus lady Magsh 48 times yesterday, so I think that was supposed to be a Minnesota score prediction. Doesn’t Indiana only play basketball?

BUTLER
0-0
MINNESOTA 34, INDIANA 17
Rodrick Williams returns to the mix at running back this week, spelling David Cobb and breaking two of Indiana's defensive linemen.  Gophers rush for 387 yards after a couple successful play actions to Maxx Williams and Isaac Fruechte in the first quarter loosen up the D.  Ra'Shede Hageman gets no sacks but consistently creates pressure on IU quarterbacks, resulting in 2 interceptions by Brock Vereen and Cedric Thompson.

KELLEN
0-0
MINNESOTA 35, INDIANA 21
The Gopher defense holds the Indiana receivers in check through interceptions by James Manuel, Martez Shabazz, and Brock Vereen.  The force is strong in the Gophers this day.

MAGSH
0-1
MINNESOTA 27, INDIANA 20
Should be a fair amount of offense in this one, but I was impressed with what the Gophers did defensively against Nebraska last week and think it will carry over against those high-octane Hoosiers. Let’s keep this New Year’s Day bowl dream alive!!!

BRUISER
0-1
MINNESOTA 37, INDIANA 31
The Gophers score a TD to go ahead by six points with less than three minutes to play, and the defense comes up with a big 4th down stop to seal the victory.  The Gophers rushing attack continues to rack up the yards, Phil “Full Nelson” throws TD passes to Goodger and Engel, and the Lamplighter adds one rushing touchdown in limited duty.   A bunch of guys I’ve never heard of play pretty well for Indiana on offense and put up 31 points, but the Hoosier defense continues to showcase its ineptitude.  Gopher fans turn their clocks back early Sunday morning and relish the extra hour we have to enjoy another B1G road win.

HIGGY
0-1
MINNESOTA 41, INDIANA 23
As I said in this week's Four Downs, I think this sets up a lot like the matchup with San Jose State. I see us controlling the clock for 42 minutes, and routinely punching in across the goal line with our physical running attack while the Hoosiers settle for three field goals in the red zone. The two QBs combine for three scores on the ground, and Cobb goes for 150 and two scores as well. Derrick Engel hauls in a TD from Phil for the third-straight game, and we get a huge momentum swing when Cocrkan comes through with his second strip-sack in three games. With five minutes left, only a small passionate gang of maroon and gold is left in the stands, as the Hoosier fans have all gone somewhere else to talk about IU basketball and Jimmy Chitwood.
